A friend of mine invited me to a fishing trip in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture. Sakaiminato is famous for “Gegege-no-Kitaro,” one of the most popular manga series in Japan. Mr. Shigeru Mizuki, who created the legendary manga, was born in Sakaiminato. You can see murals and figures of the characters on the street. The city is also famous for fishing, but we were not so lucky today.

A small fishing boat took us to the biggest and often productive breakwater (Ichimonji-hato), but we didn’t catch any fish except some small fish that were unfortunately snagged by sharp hooks. Later the wind got extremely strong and even cold raindrops started attacking us. It was far from comfortable, but I felt fishing at a new place is always nice.
（私たちは渡船に乗って、最も大きく、そしてしばしば魚影が濃い防波堤（一文字波止）へ行きましたが、不運なことに鋭い針に引っかかってしまった小魚を除き、何も釣れません。しばらくすると風がとても強くなり、冷たい雨粒までもが私たちを打ち始めました。決して快適ではありませんでしたが、初めての場所での釣りはいつだって良いものだな、と思いました。）
