(No. 143) No Fish around Ohtoko-bana and at Tadaura Harbor (大床鼻の周辺と唯浦港にて釣果なし)

When I arrived at the parking space overlooking Ohtoko-bana in Izumo City about 5 a.m., there was already one car parked and a guy was preparing his stuff. What I heard first in the darkness was the ominously loud sound of waves. The guy told me that one of his friends would come later and he was not sure if three fishermen could share Ohtoko-bana at once. I told him I would not necessarily need to fish at the spot. When I got down to the shore, I found that what I felt at the parking space was unfortunately true. The sea was too rough for comfortable fishing.

（午前５時頃、出雲市の大床鼻を見下ろす駐車スペースに到着すると、既に１台の車が停まっていて、一人の男性が準備をされていました。暗闇の中、私が最初に耳にしたのは、不吉なほど大きな波の音でした。その男性によると、ご友人が一人、遅れてやって来られるそうなのですが、果たして３人が同時に大床鼻に立てるのだろうかと、不安そうでした。私は必ずしも大床鼻で釣らなくてもいいですよ、とお伝えしました。海岸に降りてみると、駐車場で感じたことが残念ながら正しかったことが分かりました。海が荒れ過ぎていて、快適な釣りはとても出来ません。）

So I started the run-and-gun style fishing at Umanose and slowly moved to Ohtoko-bana as I did the other day. There were several patches of sarashi (white churning water), but no Japanese sea bass hit my lures until I got to Ohtoko-bana. The guy and the friend of his were there for yellowtail amberjacks, but the wind was too strong and the waves were too high. We shared the misfortune. I immediately turned back to the parking space and drove down to Tadaura Harbor. This small harbor is famous for the Monument of Giyu, which is celebrating a heroic deed done by brave local fishermen in 1912. I fished around the harbor for a while, but not only I but also other three lure fishermen there had no luck.
