This evening I used only pencil
poppers, a type of topwater lures, in the same way as American fishermen do. I
held my rod almost upright and kept shaking the
rod tip like a whip. The lure swung from side to side on the surface and made a
noisy splash. This method is very effective in early summer
at Lake Shinji, and this evening a big needlefish attacked one of such lures, a
Northbar Flying Squid.
（今夕、私は、ペンシル・ポッパーと呼ばれる種類のトップウォーター・ルアーのみを、アメリカの釣り人が使う方法で使いました。竿をほとんど垂直に立てて、ムチのようにその先端を振り続けるのです。ルアーは水面で首を左右に振り、騒々しい飛沫を上げました。この方法は初夏の宍道湖でとても有効であり、今夕は、大きなダツが、そうしたルアーの一つ、ノースバー・フライング・スクイッドを襲いました。）
I remember the fish jumped out of the
water when it attacked the lure, but I don’t remember whether the jump was
before or after the attack. Anyway it was exciting. Whenever I have free time
in the evening of this summer, I would like
to fish at Lake Shinji with this American method. If you see a guy that is standing
at the shore of the lake like a figure in the last picture posted above, the
guy is probably me. Please feel free to
