The cousin of
mine, who came to Matsue City from Osaka a few days ago to fish at Lake Shinji,
finally caught a Japanese sea bass of 70 cm (28 in.) long yesterday. Now that his
mission was completed, I took him to Uppurui-bana in Izumo City. He had
never tried fishing from a rocky beach at the Sea of Japan side of the Shimane
Peninsula. I would like to show him the different beauty of nature of the peninsula.
Although we didn’t catch any fish this morning, he seemed satisfied with just
being there and I enjoyed a comfortable chat with a lure fisherman who fished for rockfish.
（宍道湖で釣りをするため、数日前に大阪から松江市にやって来た私の従兄弟が、ついに昨日、70センチのスズキを釣ったのです。そこで私は、使命を果たし終えた従兄弟を連れて、出雲市の十六島鼻に行きました。従兄弟は、島根半島の日本海に面した磯から釣りをしたことがなかったのです。私は、島根半島の自然がもつ別の美しさを、従兄弟に見せたかったのでした。今朝、魚は何も釣れませんでしたが、従兄弟は、ただそこにいるだけで満足しているようでしたし、私は、根魚を狙っておられたルアー釣り師との楽しいお喋りを満喫しました。）
