(No. 191) Baby Scorpion Fish and Hong Kong Grouper at Takanishi in Tayu (手結の高西にて小さなカサゴとキジハタ)

This morning I headed for Nitaki, a fishing spot that borders the east side of Takanishi in Tayu but you cannot get to directly from Takanishi. As soon as I got out of the woods, I found there was a bait fisherman in Nitaki. I didn’t like to bother him with my splashy lures. I turned back and went to Takanishi as I did the last time. It was shortly after 5 a.m. The sea was very calm as it had been for several days, but the current seemed slowly moving. Aiming for coveted yellowtail amberjacks, I took out an American pencil popper first. Then, I alternately used some of my topwater plugs, but no fish attacked them. I took out a Tsunami Ball Jig and let it sink to the bottom of the sea. Last time I caught a Honk Kong grouper with a 2 oz. ball jig. Today I cast a heavier 3 oz. jig because I wanted to feel the bottom more clearly.

（今朝は手結のニタキに向かいました。高西の東端に接している釣り場なのですが、高西から直接行くことは出来ないのです。森を抜け出してみると、ニタキには既にエサ釣り師がいらっしゃるのが見えました。水面で飛沫を上げる私のルアーで、この方の釣りのお邪魔をしたくはありませんでした。私は来た道を引き返し、前回と同様、高西に行ったのです。午前５時を少し超えていました。海は、ここ数日と同様にとても穏やかでしたが、潮はゆっくりと動いているようです。憧れのヒラマサを狙って、まずはアメリカのペンシル・ポッパーを取り出しました。続いて、いくつかのトップウォーター・プラグを交互に使いましたが、魚はプラグに襲いかかりません。私はツナミのボールジグを取り出して、海底まで沈めてみました。前回、２オンスのボールジグでキジハタ（アカミズ）が釣れたのでした。今日は、より明瞭に海底を感じたかったので、より重たい３オンスのジグを投げました。）

At the first cast I caught a baby scorpion fish. I released it. At the second cast I caught a Hong Kong grouper of almost the same size as the last time, and I kept it. Then, I caught another baby scorpion fish. If I had kept using the jig, I might have kept catching rockfish, but there was no way for me to exclude babies. I stopped using the Tsunami Ball Jig and returned to unreliable topwater plugs. A small fishing boat soon came close to me. There was a local professional fisherman on it, and he started swimming around the boat with a white float. He dived into the sea to pick up something.

“What are you trying to pick?” I asked.

“Turban shell,” he slowly replied.

“Do you pick a lot?”

“Just an amount that fills up this bag.”

“How long are you in the water in a day?”

“4 to 5 hours.”

“That is hard work!”

Then, the fisherman asked me, “Did you catch many fish?”

“Not a lot,” I said.

“Why don’t you swim?” he said.

I swam further than usual, because the fact that I was authorized by a local professional fisherman to swim around Takanishi encouraged me. I did the breaststroke and reached Enobori, a fishing spot to the west of Takanishi. I said hello to a lure fisherman who had been fishing from the spot.

（第１投目に小さなカサゴが釣れたので、逃がしてあげました。第２投目には、前回とほぼ同じ大きさのキジハタが釣れたので、これは持って帰ることにしました。その後、小さいカサゴがまた釣れました。このジグを使い続ければ、根魚が釣れ続けたかもしれないのですが、小さい魚を避ける手段はないのでした。私はツナミのボールジグを使うのをやめて、頼りにならないトップウォーター・プラグに戻りました。間もなく小さな漁船が近くにやってきました。漁船に乗っておられた地元の漁師さんが、白い浮き輪とともに、その周囲を泳ぎ始めました。海中に潜って、何かを獲っておられるのです。

「何を獲っておられますか？」と私は尋ねました。

「サ・ザ・エ」と漁師さんはゆっくり言われました。

「たくさん穫れますか？」

「この袋が一杯になるほどですわ」

「一日何時間、水の中におられますか？」

「４、５時間」

「重労働ですがね！」

そして漁師さんは「いっぱい釣れましたかね？」と逆に私に尋ねるのでした。

「ちょんぼです」と私は答えました。

「泳ぐだわね」と漁師さんが言いました。

高西の周辺での遊泳を地元の漁師さんに正式に認可してもらったという事実に励まされた私は、普段よりも遠くまで泳ぎました。高西の西方に位置する釣り場、犬堀まで平泳ぎで到達し、そこで釣っておられたルアー釣り師にご挨拶をしたのでした。）
