As I have
mentioned several times in this blog, the “Sanin Fishing Spot Guidebook” is a
very useful and laborious work. To be exact, it is a guidebook in five volumes,
and each volume is being sold separately. The volume 2, which covers Tottori
Prefecture, was sold out when I came back to Japan, but fortunately I have all
of the rest. This morning I intended to go to Oome in Tayu, the description
about which in the guidebook had intrigued me. However, I had to turn back
halfway. The path to Oome seemed blocked with a stick. In addition, as the
guidebook wisely cautions, you have to walk on private road first to get to
Oome, and I felt as if I were walking in the middle of a living room. I
don’t think I will have a chance to fish from Oome.
（このブログで何度も触れている通り、『山陰の釣り場総覧』は非常に有用な労作です。正確に言うと、これは５巻からなるガイドブックであり、それぞれの巻ごとに販売されています。私が帰国した時には、鳥取県の釣り場を扱う第２巻は売り切れていましたが、幸いなことに残りの４巻をすべて入手できました。今朝は、手結にある大目という釣り場へ行くつもりでした。このガイドブックにある説明を読み、興味を引かれたのです。しかしながら私は、途中で引き返さざるを得ませんでした。大目に至る小道は、どうやら棒でふさがれているようなのです。さらには、このガイドブックが賢明にも注意を喚起している通り、大目に行くにはまず民家の私道を歩かねばならず、私はまるでどこかのお宅の居間の中を歩いているような気になったのでした。大目で釣りをする機会は、どうも持てそうにありません。）
Instead, I went
to Takanishi in Tayu. Because I spent a considerable amount of time around Oome, I arrived
at the spot after 6 a.m. I might have missed the best time for fishing. I gave
up fishing much sooner than usual and turned back. When I was swimming just
outside the east breakwater of Tayu Harbor, I saw two young fishermen walking
toward Enobori.
“It seems
pleasant to swim,” one of them said to me.
“Indeed it is,”
I replied.
“Can we get to
the tip?” he asked.
“Yes you can,
but you cannot keep going straight. You have to climb the hill to get to the
spot.”
9 days ago I
kept going straight without knowing I had to climb the hill. As a result, I
fell into the water. This morning I felt as if I did a little life-saving
act.
（代わりに私は手結の高西へ行きました。大目の周辺でかなり時間を費やしたため、釣り場に到着した時は午前６時を過ぎていました。いちばん良い時間は逃してしまったのかもしれません。私はいつもより早く釣りをあきらめて、引き返しました。そして、手結港の東の波止のすぐ外側を泳いでいる時、二人の若い釣り人が犬堀に向かっていくのが見えたのです。
「気持ち良さそうですね」と、一人が私に言いました。
「気持ち良いですよ」と、私は答えました。
「先端まで行けますかね？」と、彼が尋ねました。
「行けますよ。でも、まっすぐ歩いていってはダメです。途中で丘を登ってください」
９日前、丘を登らないといけないことを知らなかった私は、まっすぐに歩いて行った結果、海に落ちたのでした。今朝は、ちょっとした人命救助をしたような気になりました。）
