After driving my father to Izumo Airport this morning, I drove to Uppurui Bay in Izumo City. Although I knew that a snowstorm was rapidly approaching the area and therefore the sea was already rough, I thought I might be able to fish at somewhere in Uppurui Bay. I hoped I would catch the Japanese sea bass at Kozu Harbor, which is one of inner parts of the bay. When the sea is rough, the fish often come inside a bay, sometimes even to a very inner part of it. The waves were not very high when I arrived at the harbor, but the wind was extremely strong. It was so gusty that there was no way for me to stand at the tip of the small breakwater of the harbor. I would fall into the ravaging sea.
（今朝、出雲空港まで父を送っていった後、出雲市の十六島湾へ車を走らせました。吹雪が急速に近づきつつあることは承知していたものの、十六島湾のどこかで竿を出せるのではないかと思ったのです。湾の最奥部にある小津港でスズキが釣れるのではないかと期待しました。海が荒れている時、スズキはしばしば湾内に入り込み、時にはその最奥部にまでやってくるのです。私が港に到着した時、波はそれほど高くありませんでしたが、とてつもない強風が吹いていました。吹きすさぶ風のため、港にある小さな防波堤の先端に立つことなど論外でした。私はきっと、荒れ狂う海に落ちていたことでしょう。）
